BOATHOUSE PROJECT

This project was completed in the spring term of my first year and was a boathouse that was located along the Schuylkill River near boathouse row. The boathouse was designed to be used by the US Olympic rowing team and will be a high achieving training facility for the rowers of the quad boats. They will have four quad boats that will be stored in the boathouse. They will use the space year round.

The boathouse will be three stories. You enter the boathouse through the center atrium that looks out toward the water. Both the side of the storage area that faces the water and the side opposite the water will be open and for access.

The space that is enclosed on the left of the entry will contain the bathrooms, changing room, the coach’s offices and a viewing room. The viewing room will be used to watch films of races to look at past performances and see how they can improve and to look at the competition. The area to the right of the entry from the path will house the training facilities, trainer’s offices and spaces for medical.

The upper floor will be used as an observation deck. This space will also be used when hosting events at the boathouse or for team gatherings.

The lower floor will house two rowing tanks for indoor training. There will also be boat storage on this level along with storage for all the oars and equipment. You will access the dock from this level.

The dock will be shaped like an L. It will go out 30 feet and down three feet then come to a landing which will be the turning point of the dock. Then the dock will go down another three feet over a 30 foot span when it come to a float dock that is 40 feet long and will be where the team will put the boat in the water.
